Background Worlds

Background illustrations from 2025, built as places a character could walk into.

The series moves through five biomes: taiga forest, African savanna, polar ice, the Amazon rainforest, and the open ocean. Each scene keeps its own light and palette — cold pines, dry heat, white glare, wet green, deep blue — so the setting carries the mood before anyone enters the frame.

I treat backgrounds as half the story. A forest is not filler behind a figure. A desert, a glacier, or an underwater shelf has to work as a page of its own: depth, weather, and a path for the eye.
